What happens in the 6th week of pregnancy. This week you could get your pregnancy confirmed either by the blood test or by urine pregnancy test. 

So how is the embryo developing in your uterus? The embryo is the size of a sesame seed and is dividing into 3 layers. The upper layer forms into the future brain and spinal chord of the baby.

In this week the fertilized egg gets implanted in the wall of the Uterus and begins to divide into various cells. A woman may not have any signs or symptoms of pregnancy. She can wait for another week or two to get a pregnancy test done. There are two types of Pregnancy tests. The first one is Urine or Home pregnancy test. This test can be done at home.

Pregnancy is a wonderful experience, a journey where every day is a new day with a different experience. Women go through a range of emotions, food cravings, food aversions and not to mention, all kinds of pains. In this blog, I would like to briefly touch upon the various reasons for the back pain which many women experience during pregnancy.

Progesterone is produced in the ovaries and the adrenal glands. When a woman gets pregnant, it begins to be produced by the placenta too. Progesterone hormone helps in preparing the body for pregnancy and conception. When not pregnant, it helps in regulating the menstrual cycle. Not producing enough progesterone can cause difficulty getting or staying pregnant. Progesterone levels fluctuate throughout your menstrual cycle.

You must have heard about the story of  Baby Abhimanyu listening to his mother and his uncle’s conversation while in Utero and solving the Chakravyuha. The earbuds begin to appear very early and may be seen by an ultrasound as early as 10 weeks, and it is said that the baby may be able to hear some frequencies of sound from as early as it may be 20 to 22 weeks.

What are the symptoms of Pregnancy?

Starting pregnancy on a healthy note can make the next nine months lot easier. Taking a pregnancy test is the only sure way to know that you are pregnant. There are some early symptoms of pregnancy, but it may not be seen in all pregnant women. Symptoms are things which you experience, while signs are the changes seen in your body by the doctor.

Around 5 million sperms are seen in the ejaculate of a man. The sperms released during an ejaculation, swim their way from the vagina to the fallopian tube. Their end goal is to fertilize the ovum -the egg of the female. But, to reach the end goal, they have to pass through multiple hurdles - the recesses in the cervix, vagina, and the uterus or the White blood cells which may be present in the woman, if she is suffering from any infection. 

In a normal pregnancy, the egg after fertilization with the sperm gets implanted in the wall of the uterus. The uterus becomes the home for the fertilized egg to develop into a fetus over the next nine months. But in some women, the fertilized egg instead of getting implanted in the wall of the uterus may get implanted in one of the fallopian tubes which connect the ovary to the uterus. It may also get implanted on the ovaries, outside the uterus. This is then called Ectopic pregnancy. So an ectopic or tubal pregnancy is a pregnancy that develops outside the uterus.

Should I drink coffee during pregnancy?

Some doctors suggest you don’t drink any caffeine during pregnancy and others advise limited consumption. Caffeine is a stimulant, so it increases your blood pressure and heart rate, which is not recommended during pregnancy. Caffeine use can also lead to dehydration, so be sure to drink plenty of water.

Routine antenatal care is very important to reduce maternal and fetal complications. Hypothyroidism can adversely affect the health of the baby and the mother if not identified and treated before and during pregnancy. It is very important that a woman is screened for thyroid deficiencies ideally while she is planning to get pregnant. The baby is completely dependent on the maternal thyroid hormones especially during the first three months of pregnancy. So this may put an additional strain on the mother and could lead to further deficiency if not identified and corrected promptly.
