Early symptoms of pregnancy Featured

You begin to have this strange feeling that you may be pregnant. It has been only 3 weeks since you had your previous period. So what could these symptoms be, which could be the tell-tale signs of pregnancy at this point - even before you miss your period?

Some of these symptoms resemble how you feel right before you get your period. So, it can be hard to tell the difference. While some women don't have any early pregnancy symptoms and others have many of them. Missing your period is an obvious sign that you are pregnant. The most accurate way to find out if you're pregnant is to take a pregnancy test and visit your ob/gyn who can confirm it with a blood test. So here are a few signs that may indicate that you could be pregnant -

Light spotting

Bleeding or spotting can make you tensed but, But light spotting or vaginal bleeding can be a sign of implantation, which is when the fertilized egg attaches to your uterine lining. It typically happens a bit earlier. Bleeding is lighter in colour and shorter in duration than your normal period. You may also have some cramps.

Breast tenderness

Breasts tend to get sensitive, sore, tingly and feel full before periods. These symptoms can be seen even during the third week of pregnancy. This sensitivity can actually increase with pregnancy due to the hormones( estrogen and progesterone). This is all preparing the breasts for future milk production.

Nausea

Nausea, or morning sickness, as it is called is a common pregnancy symptom that can happen any time of day, with or without vomiting. Nausea is also due to the surge in pregnancy hormones. Nausea tends to decrease in most women after the first trimester, but in some women, it can continue all the way until the delivery.

Frequent urination

Do you need to use the bathroom every few minutes? The urgency to go is due to the pregnancy hormone hCG. This hormone increases the blood flow tot he kidneys to get rid of the waste more efficiently. The increased urination is also due to the fact that your uterus is slowly growing in size and is exerting pressure over the urinary bladder, leaving very little space for the bladder to store urine. So you may have to empty your bladder more often.

Fatigue

Your body needs a lot of energy to build your placenta. This puts additional strain on your body and may make you very sleepy and tried. This sleepiness may be happening because of the rise in your body's pregnancy hormones too. Lack of sleep in the night due to increased urination can also make you tired and sleepy during the day.

Food Aversions

Some women develop aversions to certain foods which were liked by them before pregnancy.  You may also experience a heightened sense of smell, like being able to smell what's cooking in your neighbor's kitchen!  It's not certain why this happens, but it may be linked to the rise of estrogen in your body.

Mood swings

Some women go through emotional upheavals during pregnancy. Some women weep and become anxious. This is also linked to the pregnancy hormones. Just be sure to contact your health care provider or a mental health professional if you're feeling depressed to the point of being unable to cope with daily life or you're thinking of hurting yourself.

Bloating

If some of your favourite dress is suddenly getting very tight. It could be due to bloating. Progesterone slows down the digestive system and this could lead to bloating. Slowing os digestion is good for the baby as it helps the mother to absorb all the nutrients from the bloodstream and nourish the baby.

 

The above signs are again seen in some women but not all women. So if you have or do not have these symptoms do not get anxious. If any of the symptoms seem to be increasing, please see your doctor and seek her advice.
